Nos anos 80 uma base militar se instalou na terra dos pretos, em Alcântara. Inesperadamente, duzentas famílias foram removidas para longe do mar. As pessoas tiveram que reaprender a viver. Adaptaram os hábitos a uma vida nova sem peixe fresco e sem cemitério para celebrar os mortos. Contam que os primeiros morreram de saudade. Novas remoções vão acontecer, disseram os homens do Estado. Quando? Ninguém responde. Os dias de espera são horas mortas.

In the 1980s a military base settled in the land of the blacks, in Alcântara. Unexpectedly, two hundred families were removed far from the sea. People had to relearn to live. They adapted their habits to a new environment without fresh fish and no graveyard to celebrate their dead. They tell that the firstones died of longing. New removals will happen, the state men said. When? Nobody knows. The waiting days, turn into dead hours.
